Storage Auctions fill need for Home Business

Grand Rapids, MI - Leanore Ransom wanted to start a home based business to supplement her income and decided to buy and sell used items. She found that all of the inventory she needed and more was available at storage unit default auctions.

Storage unit default auctions occur when someone stops paying for a storage unit and the facility is forced to sell the contents of the unit to recoup lost rental fees. The facility also wants the unit cleared of all merchandise so that they can rent it again.

Ransom claims that she bought her first unit for $160 and was hooked on the concept immediately. She even got her Victorian living room furniture and oak dining set in her own home in Belmont.

Currently, her finds include CD's furniture or just about anything else that you can name and end up in her new resale store, Blickety Block Resale Shop. Ransom frequents the Georgetown Township-based Blair Auction, owned by Wayne G. Blair but says that there are many other facilities selling default storage units.

storageuction_125   With the sliding economy, more storage units are going into default and people are buying the defaulted units for less and less. Chris Longly, spokesman for the National Auctioneers Association, professional trade association based in Overland, Kan., said "They'll still come to the auction, they just won't buy as high as they normally would" This opens as incredible opportunity for anyone that wants to make a part or full time living buying and reselling the items.

Wayne G. Blair, owner of Blair Auctions, one of the Midwests largest storage facility auctioneers, said "I personally know people who make over $100,000 selling storage unit merchandise"

And the best places to sell it? Online, say most successful resellers. Craigslist, a free, locally focused, classified ad site is one of the best ways to move larger items.. If it can be shipped, eBay or other online auction sites are the place. Some folks prefer to sell at yard sales and flea markets, make great profits and have a lot of fun interacting with the buyers.

Ransom started by selling the items from her house and then branched out into the retail store.
